Is Presentation The Secret To Success?

by Robert Dobes | October 15th, 2007

PresentationToday as I was watching TV there was a commercial for health insurance from this less known insurance company. The pitch was interesting offering great coverage for low and affordable rates. However, there was one thing that made me think twice. The whole commercial was presented in such an amateurish form that I am not sure I could trust this insurance company at all. The commercial looked so bad I think I could make a better one using my old MiniDV camcorder and a PC. Another red flag went up after seeing the very low rates which made the whole thing look too good to be true. There’s no way I would put my life and the life of my family in their hands.

Now, are they really bad? I don’t know but the way they present themselves made me think so. It doesn’t matter if you have the best product/service for the lowest price when you don’t present yourself properly.

If I’ll talk about designing your websites I don’t mean your site should have nice pictures and flashy animations. What I mean is having an appropriate presentation to what your goal and target audience is. In some cases having high quality pictures and animations is the best solution while on the other hand very simple design with no or very few graphics will work best. For example you can compare an animation driven website like nike.com to a website as simple as google.com.
You get the point.
